8 Signs Of A High-Quality CBD Oil

As CBD continues to increase in popularity, it’s essential to make sure the CBD you use is high-quality and comes from a reliable source. Keep reading to find out precisely what makes for a good, safe, and effective CBD oil.

How to tell if CBD oil is high-quality

1. Extracted using supercritical CO₂

The best CBD oils use safe solvents like supercritical CO₂ to extract the desired compounds. This ensures a safe extract is produced, free from any residues or additives—which is often not the case with other extraction methods.

Avoid CBD oils made using chemicals like propane, butane, pentane, or hexane as they can leave behind dangerous contaminants.

2. Produced using naturally grown hemp

Hemp is a “hyperaccumulator” plant. That fancy word simply means hemp readily absorbs everything from the soil it grows in. What it absorbs can be useful, like vitamins and minerals, or harmful, like lead, petroleum, and toxic chemicals.

The safest CBD oil will be sourced in an area where the government requires farmers to be certified and have their fields frequently tested for toxic substances. The oil itself should be tested by an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited lab. They’ll make sure it doesn’t contain pesticides, heavy metals, bacteria, fungus, solvent residue, or any other foreign matter.

3. The price isn’t too good to be true

High-quality CBD oils aren’t cheap to make, so if the price is very low, that’s a good sign it’s made with inferior or contaminated raw materials, substandard solvents, or it doesn’t contain very much, if any, actual CBD.

You don’t have to buy the most expensive product on the market to be safe. Look for reasonable prices and favourable customer reviews.

4. The product label displays the amount of CBD

Good CBD oil made by a reputable company will tell you how much CBD you’re getting right on the label. Look for either the concentration or the total number of milligrams in the bottle. Higher numbers mean a more potent product. To be considered effective, CBD oils should contain 250–1000mg per 10ml bottle. Anything less and you’re wasting your money.

5. Independent test results

Before buying CBD oil, check to see if the company has its products verified by independent testing facilities. A company you can trust will make these results public. The information might be on the bottle, the box it came in, on an insert, or published on the website. If you can’t find it there, then it is time to start asking questions. Most companies with consistently good results are so proud of them that they’ll make the reports easy to find.

Test results that you can view and verify are essential because they will state the levels of both CBD and THC, plus a heavy metals analysis. If you can’t find this information, be very wary.

6. Made from “whole-plant” extracts, not CBD isolates

CBD oils made from whole-plant extracts, also called full-spectrum oils, are generally considered to be of higher quality than those made from CBD isolates.

The idea of an isolate sounds good; it’s pure CBD, but it’s often made from cheap materials and lacks the other cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes that work in partnership with CBD. It’s when these elements exist together that they become more effective, so full-spectrum extracts are a must.

7. Contains less than 0.2% THC

CBD oils made from hemp may contain trace amounts of THC—usually 0.2% or less—but it’s not nearly enough to get you high. However, sub-standard processing can boost the levels of THC to a degree that creates psychotropic effects. Not only is this a sign of a low-quality product, but it could even make the CBD oil illegal where you live. Check the labels and lab reports for exact figures before you make a purchase.

8. No outrageous medical claims

Research, as well as personal accounts, make it clear that CBD is a remarkable compound, but it’s not approved as a medical treatment by any government agency. That means it falls into the same category as vitamins and other supplements, and no company can legally claim that it treats or cures any medical condition, with a few very specific exceptions. If you’re looking at a CBD oil that makes claims like that, steer clear—it’s probably too good to be true.

Everything You Need to Know About the Endocannabinoid System

Everything You Need to Know About the Endocannabinoid System

You may have noticed that people use CBD for a wide range of health concerns, including anxiety, depression, pain relief, insomnia and other sleep struggles, and digestive issues. People even give CBD to their animal companions for various ailments.

This might lead you to wonder.

Why does CBD work so well for so many different health concerns? How is this possible? How can a substance be so safe, yet so powerful?

The answer? We are hard-wired for CBD use!

To understand how CBD works in the body, let’s explore the Endocannabinoid System.

This article continues below the video and podcast.

You can also learn more about our CBD Health and Wellness podcast.

What are endocannabinoids?
In the 1990s, scientists discovered endocannabinoids, which are natural cannabis-like molecules produced by the human body. They began to realize cannabis exerted its effects, in part, by mimicking our endocannabinoids. While trying to understand the effects of the cannabis plant, they discovered a complex cell-signaling system and named it the endocannabinoid system (more on that shortly).

The word “endocannabinoid” stems from endogenous (a substance or process originating from within an organism, tissue, or cell) and cannabinoid (named for the plant, cannabis). The terms “endocannabinoid” and “endogenous cannabinoid” refer to the same thing and are used interchangeably.

It is believed that the endocannabinoid system, present in all mammals (and many other animals), evolved in primitive animals over 600 million years ago. Humans and animals naturally synthesize endocannabinoids, which are chemical compounds that activate the same receptors as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the best-known active component of marijuana (Cannabis sativa).

Endocannabinoids help keep internal bodily functions running smoothly.

Several endocannabinoids have been identified so far, but the two key players are anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglyerol (2-AG). These endocannabinoids are made from fat-like molecules within cell membranes, and are synthesized on-demand. This means that your body makes and uses them exactly when they’re needed, rather than packaged and stored for later use like many other biological molecules.

AEA and THC are similar, but AEA doesn’t get you high like THC does (CBD does not cause a “high”). AEA does have a calming effect, though. In fact, it gets its name from ananda, the Sanskrit word for bliss.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that trigger cannabinoid (and other) receptors in the body. More than 100 cannabinoids have been identified in Cannabis sativa plants (hemp and marijuana belong to this plant family). The two most commonly studied (and used) cannabinoids are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

It is an established scientific fact that cannabinoids and other components of cannabis can modulate many physiological systems in the human brain and body. There is a massive (and rapidly growing!) body of evidence that supports the existence of the system and the therapeutic benefits of CBD.

In the brain, cannabinoids and endocannabinoids work as neurotransmitters (chemical messengers that deliver information from one cell to the next.) Neurotransmitters all interact with a lot of different receptors and thus have a lot of different effects.

Experts aren’t completely sure how CBD interacts with the ECS. But they do know that it doesn’t bind to CB1 or CB2 receptors the way THC does. Instead, many believe it works by preventing endocannabinoids from being broken down. This allows them to have more of an effect on your body. Others believe that CBD binds to a receptor that hasn’t been discovered yet. We will di

Business Analysis

Direct-to-consumer marketing can prove to be a valuable tool for hemp and CBD companies with less restrictions and a wider reach.

  • Email

With the death of Facebook arbitrage, direct-to-consumer (DTC) marketers are forced to look for new ways to drive sales more quickly than ever before. Enter TV. Once seen primarily as a branding medium, DTC brands are now using television to drive online and in-store sales. The continued growth and sophistication of attribution modeling in television has allowed marketers and their agency partners to more directly measure television’s impact on KPIs.

But what if you are a brand that can’t be on Facebook or Google due to ad restrictions? Or your potential customer base is spread across multiple demographics? TV is a great, if not the only, way to reach CBD customers on a mass scale. CBD brands face the same challenges that all DTC brands face with the added bonus of additional restrictions due to product perception, and can also vary drastically state-by-state around the country. These restrictions however, also create a huge opportunity for the savvy marketer to dive in and own share of voice in the CBD market. With Facebook off the table, CBD brands are spared the expense of learning that Facebook arbitrage no longer exists. The opportunity to scale an emerging CBD brand on TV has never been more accessible.

The acceptance of CBD brands on television still faces restrictions as each network group has their own standards and practices. However, the number of networks accepting CBD products grows by the day. As education and understanding around the efficacy of CBD increase, so are the networks’ willingness to accept advertising. Remember, there once was a time when liquor brands couldn’t advertise on TV!

Looking at other media platforms for reaching potential CBD customers through advertising, terrestrial radio also provides very strict guidelines, if allowed at all; the same can be said for digital options and satellite radio. Whereas podcasts are a popular option due to regulations mostly being decided upon by the podcast’s producers, it’s hard to compare the reach to consumers of podcasts vs. television.

The nuances of navigating the media landscape for CBD brands remains complex. The opportunity to capture market share through TV is wide open. The CBD brand who recognizes this and acts most quickly has the chance to become the undisputed brand leader in a market that projects to exceed $45 billion by the year 2024.

The Best CBD Sunscreen [That Actually Works]

We all know that it is essential to protect our skin while in the sun, even if it is not something that we always do. Skin damage can quickly occur when you are exposed to the sun’s UV rays; for some people, it takes as little as half an hour for their skin to burn, causing days of irritation.

Applying regular sunscreen helps to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that everyone use a sunscreen that contains at least 30 SPF and which is also resistant to water.

While sunscreen is a useful tool at protecting your skin from the sun, it does not always do the job as well as you might hope. We have all experienced the horror of waking up after a day on the beach only to find that our skin has still somehow managed to burn, despite applying sunscreen throughout the day.

CBD sunscreen might just be the answer to this problem, providing your skin with an additional layer of protection from the sun.

Let’s take a closer look at the science behind CBD sunscreen and which brands are worth trying.

How Do CBD Topicals Work?

In order to fully understand the benefits of CBD sunscreen, it is essential first to know how CBD interacts with the body when you use it in topical form.

CBD is one of the many naturally occurring cannabinoids in cannabis plants and could have a wide range of different health benefits. When CBD enters the body, it joins forces with the cannabinoids that your body naturally creates, working to ensure that the endocannabinoid system is functioning correctly.

It is the endocannabinoid system’s job to manage a number of different processes within the body, helping to ensure that everything runs like a well-oiled machine. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for the body’s immune system, how the body handles pain, sleep patterns, and the body’s ability to repair damaged cells, just to name a few.

You can use CBD in many different ways, including both orally and topically. The way in which CBD enters the body will determine its effectiveness and the areas of the body that it impacts. CBD topicals have a massive advantage over other forms of CBD, in that their effects kick in much quicker.

When applying CBD directly to your skin, it can be almost instantly absorbed through the layers of your skin, starting to work straight away. When consuming CBD orally, your digestive system must process it first, slowing the whole process down.

Another benefit of choosing a CBD topical is that it only affects the area of the body that you apply it to. With CBD topicals such as sunscreen, you get complete control over where you feel the effects of CBD and never have to worry about other systems within your body being altered as a result of using CBD.

What is CBD Sunscreen?

CBD sunscreen combines two different products into one, making it easier than ever for you to protect your skin while in the sun. CBD sunscreen combines traditional sunscreen with nutrient-rich CBD oil. The type of CBD oil used will very much depend on the brand that you choose, making it vital that you purchase your CBD sunscreen from a trustworthy brand.

There are two main types of CBD, full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. The main difference between the two is that CBD isolate undergoes more powerful filtering to ensure that CBD is the only cannabinoid that makes it into the final product.

Full-spectrum CBD, on the other hand, contains all of the cannabinoids that naturally occur within the plant. While it is very much a matter of personal preference as to which one you choose, many believe that full-spectrum CBD is much more effective. The different cannabinoids within full-spectrum CBD are thought to all work together within the body, for more effective results.

Some brands prefer to use CBD isolate in their sunscreen, believing it to provide a much purer experience, whereas other brands opt for full-spectrum CBD for more powerful effects. When shopping for CBD sunscreen, this is definitely something to look out for.

How Does CBD Sunscreen Work?

CBD sunscreen is made up of two different components: traditional SPF sunscreen and CBD oil. What this means is that there are two different things happening when you apply CBD sunscreen to your skin.

The SPF within the sunscreen works in much the same way as regular sunscreen does, forming a protective layer between your skin and the sun’s UV rays. It is essential to check whether the CBD sunscreen you are purchasing is water-resistant, in just the same way that you would with regular sunscreen.

Without water resistance, your CBD sunscreen simply washes off when you enter the water, leaving your skin vulnerable to the sun. This is a real problem if you are planning on being anywhere near water, as most people usually are when they apply sunscreen.

What Are The Benefits of Using CBD Sunscreen Compared to Regular Sunscreen?

The number one benefit of choosing a CBD infused sunscreen over just a regular sunscreen is that you are essentially applying two different products to your body at the same time. Having CBD and SPF within one cream saves you both time and space in your suitcase.

Combining the two products together also makes it less likely that you forget to apply one, meaning that you have less to worry about before heading out the door in the morning.

CBD sunscreen allows you to choose the areas of your body that you want the CBD to affect. If you know that your face, for example, is particularly sensitive to the sun, you can choose to only apply CBD sunscreen to that area rather than it having an impact on your entire body.

Topical CBD does not affect the internal processes within your body, meaning that the CBD you apply to your skin will not alter the dose of any other CBD products that you take for medical reasons.

While regular sunscreen does a pretty good job at protecting your skin, when you apply it correctly, for those with sensitive skin, it is not always enough to prevent damage from occurring. That’s where the CBD comes in.

What Does the CBD Do?

Considering it is the sunscreen itself that actually protects your skin from the sun, you might be wondering why CBD is mixed in, to begin with.

CBD is useful when you apply it topically mixed with your sunscreen for a number of different reasons. All of them focus on promoting healthier skin.

Studies on CBD and Skincare

Several studies, including one by Toth et al. for the Journal of Molecules, have found that CBD is able to increase the rate at which skin cells heal. This means that if you do still manage to burn in the sun, you reduce the time that you have to deal with burnt skin and pain.

Skin cells that the sun has damaged can also cause problems in later years. And of course, sun-related skin damage is one of the leading causes of skin cancer. By being able to protect and heal these cells, CBD may help reduce the chance of skin damage in the years to come.

The benefits of CBD sunscreen go beyond just protecting your skin in the sun, however. It can also improve the overall appearance and health of your skin.

One of the lesser-known benefits of CBD is its ability to act as an antioxidant in your body. This commonly used label can be applied to all kinds of different food and drink. One of antioxidants’ primary uses is helping promote skin elasticity and general health.

Studies like this one for the Journal of Pharmacol Research by Campos et al. have found that CBD acts as an effective antioxidant, carrying with it all the health benefits of other natural antioxidants.

A further study by Flavia Alvim Sant’anna Addor for the Brazilian Society of Dermatology found that antioxidants had significant effects on the health of your skin. Through a huge range of different chemical reactions and sub-dermal interactions, antioxidants help improve your skin’s ability to both heal and regulate itself.

By being able to apply an SPF sunscreen and CBD oil all in one product, you are able to benefit from both at the same time. You can protect your skin while ensuring that it remains healthy.

Provacan CBD Sunscreen

Provacan is one of the leading CBD brands when it comes to CBD topicals. All of Provacan’s CBD topicals contain high-quality CBD that feels great on your skin while also providing your body with an effective dose of CBD.

When Provacan’s CBD sunscreen first appeared on their online store, people saw it as a revolutionary product, with the potential to change the way that people protect their skin in the sun.

Provacan sunscreen acts as a two in one product combining a 30 SPF UV protection with 50mg of natural CBD. Thanks to Provacan’s creation, you never again have to apply two layers of cream to your skin before heading out into the sun.

You also no longer have to worry about your skincare products taking up too much room in your luggage the next time you pack for a vacation because Provacan’s CBD sunscreen comes in a conveniently sized tube.

In order to create their popular CBD sunscreen, Provacan used its award-winning full-spectrum CBD oil, combining it with their own sunscreen formula. The result is a nutrient-rich sunscreen that not only protects your skin from the sun but also provides it with a healthy dose of CBD.

Provacan uses natural ingredients that they have chosen carefully for their adequate sun protection and smooth texture. Unlike most sunscreens, Provacan’s CBD sunscreen does not leave your skin feeling heavy and sticky to the touch.

When using Provacan CBD sunscreen, your skin feels as though you have applied light and airy moisturizer so that you can enjoy your time in the sun, feeling your very best.

Final Thoughts on CBD Sunscreen

There are so many benefits to applying a layer of CBD to your skin on a regular basis, whether you are heading out into the sun or not, and CBD sunscreen is one of the easiest ways to do so. CBD sunscreen takes two different skincare products and combines them into one, for maximum convenience.

The next time that you head off on vacation, why not try CBD sunscreen for yourself and save yourself a little extra suitcase space.

If you're heading out in the sun, you will need to apply your sunscreen first. But have you considered CBD sunscreen? Here's why you should…

CBD Infused Wine! What is it & Why is it Trending?

Wine is more than a drink that complements dinner. Millions of people take wine because of their underlying health benefits. For instance, it reduces the risks of diabetes and improves heart health.

Even better, the fast-rising CBD infused wine has lots to offer. Most of the fame CBD is enjoying comes from the growing cannabis legalization. The broad legalization opens new avenues for recreation. CBD-infused wine is a new invention in the CBD industry that’s gaining traction.

According to a report, the general cannabis beverage market might hit $4, 464 million by 2025. Many people resort to CBD infused wine because it has no psychoactive properties. The drink also delivers the health benefits of CBD.

What is CBD-Infused Wine?

CBD-infused wines are innovative products that perfectly blend wine and CBD. Mixing the two intensifies their effects. This allows you to enjoy both products in the drink. Experts use tinctures when making CBD-infused wine because they blend seamlessly into wine.

Here are some of the reasons why CBD infused wine is going to be the next big thing:

Affordable

Any wine lover will tell you that finding a wine that’s cheap but still has a good taste is almost impossible. The variety of products makes the task more daunting, and it’s easy to end up disappointed.

Thankfully, a bottle of wine that tastes good doesn’t have to be expensive. The new CBD-infused wine not only goes easy on your pocket but is also delicious.

The fact that the wine comes infused with CBD means that you don’t have to buy the two products separately. Thus, many people on a tight budget are resorting to CBD-infused wine. It offers a cheap way of enjoying beneficial effects from two products in a single drink.

No High Sensation

The cannabis plant produces THC and CBD, among other compounds. The manufacturers can extract CBD from cannabis without THC. They then infuse CBD into other products such as edibles and wine.

THC has psychoactive properties. It is the compound that triggers a high sensation in cannabis users. When alone, CBD won’t make users high.

Besides, CBD also comes from the hemp plant. Unlike the marijuana plant, the hemp plant has insignificant psychoactive compounds. CBD from hemp is legal in many states since it has less than 0.3% of THC. The small levels of THC can’t cause psychoactive effects.

Infusing CBD with wine means that users won’t get high. This comes as a relief to most users. They get to enjoy the drink without exposure to psychoactive or mind-altering effects.

Good Taste

The excellent taste of CBD-infused wine contributes significantly to its popularity. Many people are reluctant to use CBD oil despite its benefits due to its unpleasant taste. CBD-infused wine comes as a solution to this problem.

Infusing CBD with wine gives users a chance to enjoy the desired effects of CBD. The sweet flavor of wines means that they won’t have to deal with the awful smell and taste of CBD oils.

CBD-infused wine is the perfect way to take CBD. Wines come with distinctive flavors, and it’s the reason many users are resorting to it.

Low Alcohol Content

Infusing wine with CBD is common in vineyards across the US and Europe. The reason is that wine-infused CBD has lower amounts of alcohol. Insignificant alcohol content reduces the risks developed from excessive alcohol consumption.

A glass of CBD infused wine sounds great to users who want to quit alcohol. The lack of alcohol in the wines allows users to enjoy the effects of CBD without alterations by alcohol. Optimum relaxation is the ultimate desired effect.

Health Benefits

The legalization of cannabis compounds with medicinal value is on the rise. The less legal restriction is a window of opportunity for both CBD producers and users. The majority of winery businesses can now produce CBD infused products like wine. The wines are not just unique because of good taste; they deliver more health benefits. Most of the beneficial properties come from CBD.

Besides, CBD users looking for new ways of consuming CBD now have fewer worries. They can watch their dosages as they enjoy taking wine. The good flavor of wine makes the experience a lot better.

The available scientific studies back the health benefits of CBD-infused products. Here are some of them:

  • Improve heart health
  • Has anti-aging effects
  • Reduces risks for cancer
  • Lowers risks to diabetes
  • Boosts mental health

Alternatively, those who are not traditionally wine lovers can still reap similar benefits by procuring high-quality CBD oil Canada from licensed retailers.

How Does the Future of CBD Infused Wine Look Like?

Currently, many vineyards are running experiments of CBD with their products. The goal is to deliver unique products. CBD allows them to introduce a new flavor or add sweetness to wine with dense flavors.

The goal of infusing wine with CBD is to deliver a social drink that has almost zero alcohol content. This will allow users to enjoy more wine without feeling drunk.

Wine is one of the favorite drinks for complementing meals. It’s no doubt that the popularity of CBD infused wines will soar into new heights in the coming years. Market analysis shows that the consumption of the products is on an upward trend. It’s clear from the trends that its use will not be declining anytime soon.

Conclusion

Infusing CBD with wine is trendy across the globe. With the explosion of the CBD industry, it’s hard to ignore what CBD infused wine offers. CBD has several health benefits. Infusing it with wine gives users another alternative of consuming it.

If you want to try CBD-infused wine, make sure to consult a professional. This will help you get the right dosage and how to start.

Cannabis or marijuana is not the same plant than cannabis sativa L., although both share history and genetics. Even though they are very similar, there are also important differences to be taken into consideration.

Hemp or cannabis sativa L are ancient plants. Evidences of their existence have been found since 12000 B.C, according to scientific estimations. It has been cultivated since the human being started agriculture and has been used in every age, culture, nation and civilization; until now.

The conquest of cannabis, at a global level, starts in the Asian continent. It is still not clear the exact place where the plant appeared. It could have been China, India or any other country in South-East Asia. The transition to other demographic places in the world is attributed to the human being. Merchants, travellers, slaves, etc, involved in the trade routes between Europe- Asia and the rest of the world, imported and exported cannabis and hemp seeds, already differentiated between psychoactive and fibrous.

Hemp was used for thousands of years to produce papyri, fabrics or ropes; among many other derivatives and uses.

The human being has enjoyed in the course of history of the company of the cannabis, taking advantage of its different uses, medicinal and recreational. It is important to stress the religious application of the cannabis plant, which is significantly present in countries like Jamaica, India, Nepal, etc.

The medicinal use of the plant is a resource that has not been completely developed nowadays. Recent researches indicate that this plant, which has been undervalued for long, is recovering an important position as medicinal plant, taking full advantage of its therapeutic properties.

The origin of CBD

The medical and the recreational applications of cannabis arise from the same part of the plant, the phytocannabinoids. What are phytocannabinoids? They are small molecules placed in the plant’s resin, glands and trichomes during all its life but especially in the flowering period. Until now, more than 100 different cannabinoids have been discovered, the most well-known ones are THC and CBD. These cannabinoids are the most widely present and abundant in the plant in comparison to others, representing 40% of the total.

The psychotropic effects of THC are well-known. But what happens with CBD? CBD, together with THC, is the cannabinoid that is being mostly investigated at present. At the end of the second decade of the 20th century, 1920-1930, CBD was isolated. But it was well into the sixties, when Rafael Mechoulam and his team of Israeli investigators fully rewrote the molecular structure of CBD, completely describing its molecular mapping. From that decade onwards, lots of discoveries have been made thanks to scientific investigations carried on all over the world, which have provided very positive information about the medicinal use of CBD.

and its applications

CBD is not a psychoactive cannabinoid, therefore it can be used all the day long without any chance of feeling “high”. This cannabinoid causes a sensation of muscle relaxation and peace of mind, but has no psychotropic effect on the user. Therefore, daily tasks are never hindered by consume, if no abuse occurs. Nowadays medicinal uses are many and help, to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the disease or pathology to be treated.

Several clinical tests and trials prove that CBD can be an antiemetic agent, significantly reducing nausea and vomit. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect, helpful for chronic or occasional pain and anxiety, and acts as an anxiolytic, antidepressive and antispasmodic agent, which helps against cancer and many other sufferings.

CBD use is efficient for people in a fast and effective way. The interaction between the exogenous and the endocannabinoids, present in the human body, is the reason why this cannabinoid has so good results with so many different pathologies and diseases.

Receptors in the endocannabinoid system, CB1 and CB2, create a synergy with the cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant. This synergy keeps the human endocannabinoid system vital and strong, but not dependant. That means that the human endocannabinoid system isn’t weakened by reducing or eliminating exogenous cannabinoids.

This CBD cannabinoid has a great future potential, but always better if combined with other fitocannabinoids. This is the reason why many countries like USA, Mexico, Canada, Italy (historically reluctant to cannabis use, both medicinal and recreational), are now open to its medicinal application. They are particularly open to CBD, non-psychoactive element belonging to cannabis and hemp.

Studies and trials have been carried on for years, even by privately held companies. And due to the irrefutable results, treating diseases like epilepsy, more and more scientists and doctors are interested in its use, study and characteristics; what will lead to future discoveries.

  • Antibacterial use
  • Inhibition of the growth of cancer cells
  • Neuroprotective agent
  • Bone growth stimulator
  • Decrease of seizure episodes
  • Reduction of blood sugar levels
  • Decrease of the function in the immune system
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Decrease of the risk for arterial occlusion
  • Reduction of small intestinal contractions
  • Reduction of vomit and nausea
  • Analgesic use
  • Anxiolytic function
  • Reduction of bacterial growth
  • Muscle spasm elimination
  • Tranquillizer
  • Treatment for psoriasis
  • Vasorelaxant

How to enjoy CBD use?

It is important to highlight, that every person has a different metabolism. Therefore, for specific diseases and pathologies the treatment has to be personalized by specialized doctors. But if you just want to enjoy CBD benefits, different methods can be applied.

Cannabinoids can be extracted according to several processes, all of them are efficient if the method is correct, varying the format according to the absorption base. Cannabinoids can be easily dissolved in fat and alcohol, but not in water. For this reason, they must be consumed combined with food or beverages.

Wine and oil are essential complements to all our home meals. So those who want to enjoy CBD benefits can include them in a glass of good wine, rich in antioxidants, and share with an appetizing meal.

In Cannawine, much to our regret, we can’t serve you food. But we can offer you an excellent wine aromatised with hemp extract enriched with cannabinoids to enjoy the pleasure of its great antioxidant properties.

This Is What Happens When You Mix Alcohol and CBD

With CBD rising in popularity, it seems people are mixing it with everything, alcohol included. Los Angeles’ bar scene is spilling over with CBD cocktail offerings, and breweries are selling CBD-infused beer. But is mixing CBD and alcohol actually a good idea?

For those who don’t know, cannabidiol [CBD] is a compound in weed with relaxant effects, but it’s not psychoactive in the way that THC is, so it won’t get you high. It’s sold as oil, in edibles, capsules, vape juice, and, apparently, alcohol.

Even if you’re not slapping the two together in a drink, CBD and alcohol can interact if you take them within four to eight hours of each other, says James Giordano, professor of neurology and biochemistry at Georgetown University Medical Center. This means that if you have a drink with dinner then take CBD dab before bed, the CBD could have a stronger effect than it would without the alcohol.

Since alcohol and CBD both relax you and lower your inhibitions, these effects could be especially strong and long-lasting when you mix the two substances. “On CBD, you’re very chill, very lighthearted, mellow. The alcohol will make that more intense,” Giordano says. “For some people, it makes them very, very sedated.” For this reason, he doesn’t recommend the combination.

“Like anything else, as doses increase of either or both, you get yourself more into a problem,” he explains. “The more you drink, the more CBD you’re taking, you get a potentiated effect that’s greater than the effect of either alone. The level of intoxication is going to be greater: greater loss of control, inhibition, motor coordination, and that becomes problematic.”

The effect this combination will have on you depends on what kind of drunk you are, though. “If you’re a happy drunk, then CBD could make you a happier drunk,” Giordano says. “If you’re an angry or violent drunk, the CBD may certainly disinhibit some of that.”

But there could actually be benefits to taking CBD with alcohol, suggests Soyona Rafatja, a New York-based functional and integrative family medicine physician. One study in the journal Psychopharmacology found that people who had alcohol and a CBD capsule had lower blood alcohol levels than those who had alcohol alone, though they experienced the same impairments in cognition and motor coordination. Another study in Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior found that rodents experienced less alcohol-induced neurodegeneration if they received CBD through a topical gel while the alcohol was administered.

More research from Free Radical Biology & Medicine showed that rodents that ingested CBD 30 minutes before ingesting alcohol were less likely to experience alcohol-induced oxidative damage in the liver than those that didn’t have the CBD. While they’re just animal studies, experts think they’re quite telling. “Alcohol decreases autophagy [degradation of damaged cells] in the liver, causing fat to accumulate in the liver and therefore cause fatty liver, inflammation, and hepatitis,” Rafatjah explains. CBD does the opposite, spurring damaged cells to degenerate, which can counteract alcohol’s effects.

Jordan Tishler, president of the medical cannabis practice InhaleMD and the Association of Cannabis Specialists, on the other hand, says there isn’t enough research to prove any interaction between alcohol and CBD. He’s more concerned about people mixing alcohol with THC—this, he says, increases THC levels in the blood eightfold.

So, the jury’s still out on the effects of combining alcohol and CBD, and experts can’t even seem to agree. If you’re going to take CBD and alcohol together, Giordano recommends at least keeping the doses low and trying both on their own first so you know how you react to them. “People who don’t drink or do CBD regularly, if they drink and do CBD together, good luck—that’s really going to be unpredictable,” he says. “If there’s any prediction at all, that prediction is, that person’s going to be pretty stoned.”

  1. What are the effects of mixing alcohol and CBD?
  2. Does CBD oil help with hangovers?
  3. CBD for alcohol withdrawal

As cannabis products seep into the beverage sector, cannabidiol (CBD) is popping up on a lot of drink menus. But what are the effects of mixing, for example, CBD oil or CBD gummies, with alcohol? Most importantly, is the combination of CBD and alcohol actually safe?

What are the effects of mixing alcohol and CBD?

Though we still have much to learn about CBD’s medicinal value, the key to understanding its effects is knowing how it interacts with our bodies’ endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is largely responsible for maintaining the body’s internal balance, or homeostasis.

CBD binds to several receptor pathways in the body, including the most well-known cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. When the CB2 receptor is activated, for example, whether by endogenous cannabinoids or phytocannabinoids (cannabinoids from the cannabis plant), it may regulate immune responses, inflammation, and other functions.

Not all CBD reactions are the same because not all human bodies are the same. There are at least seven genetic mutations of the CB2 receptor, for example, which may in turn alter the way one individual responds to CBD as opposed to another. As a result, how one person reacts to a mix of CBD and alcohol may differ significantly from another.

The way our bodies take in and metabolize CBD is complex, which makes it difficult to make any definitive statements on what to expect if you mix it with alcohol. Photo by: Gina Coleman/Weedmaps

The way our bodies take in and metabolize CBD is complex and under-researched, which makes it difficult to make any definitive statements on what to expect if you mix it with alcohol. An individual’s response to CBD, like THC, is largely dependent on genetics.

With that in mind, we can still make a few general assumptions based on existing research — namely that mixing CBD and alcohol may lower blood alcohol levels while reducing some of alcohol’s toxic effects on the liver.

In 1979, a study published in the journal Psychopharmacology gave 10 volunteers one of the following at random: a CBD capsule and alcohol, a CBD capsule and orange juice, a placebo with orange juice, or alcohol on its own. Participants who were given the mix of CBD and alcohol had lower blood alcohol levels than participants who had just been given alcohol, though there weren’t any notable differences in impairment of motor skills.

So while CBD may affect a person’s blood alcohol level, it may not temper the immediate outward effects of alcohol use. In fact, because both alcohol and CBD can be sedating in high doses, they may produce a higher level of sedation when taken together.

A few animal studies have also shown that CBD may mitigate neurodegenerative and oxidative liver damage associated with alcohol use. A 2013 study from the “Journal of Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior” administered CBD gel and injections to rodents, which were also given alcohol. Both the CBD gel and injection proved effective in decreasing the rate of neurodegeneration in rodent models.

Another study from 2014 found that rodents given CBD 30 minutes prior to being given alcohol showed significantly less oxidative stress on the liver than rodents who had just been given alcohol. It’s yet to be determined whether these therapeutic effects are transferable to human alcohol consumption, but they do present the possibility that some of the most damaging aspects of alcohol use can be tempered with CBD.

However, based on the limited amount of research available to us, there’s no way of telling whether a glass or two of CBD wine could potentially lead to any adverse health effects, and more evidence is needed to give a definitive answer.

Does CBD oil help with hangovers?

You may or may not already be familiar with CBD oil — a cannabis concentrate, tincture, or extract with a high concentration of CBD — as a popular wellness product. The rapidly growing presence of CBD oil in dispensaries, health food stores, major pharmacies, and on the internet has more people than ever wondering how it might improve their lives.

CBD oil is unlikely to alleviate immediate alcohol intoxication or impairment of motor skills, but could CBD oil help get rid of a hangover? While it isn’t likely to be the most immediate cure, CBD oil may effectively treat several hangover symptoms, including headaches and nausea.

CBD’s neuroprotective and antioxidant properties may also make CBD oil a viable option for nursing a hangover. Again, everyone’s body is different and will react differently to both alcohol and CBD. But it’s possible for CBD oil to treat some of the most notorious hangover symptoms.

CBD for alcohol withdrawal

If CBD has the potential to treat hangover symptoms, could it also help alleviate the harsh symptoms of alcohol withdrawal? Again, more research is needed to say for sure, but CBD may be able to help soften the dangers of alcohol withdrawal by treating symptoms and promoting internal balance.

A 2016 review published in the journal Neurotoxicity Research found little evidence to support the use of CBD in treating alcohol addiction or withdrawal but it did posit that a substance that acts on CB2 receptors, which CBD does, may be effective in treating alcohol dependence.

In addition, Dr. Melanie Bone, a board-certified OB-GYN and medical marijuana specialist who practices in West Palm Beach, Florida, asserts that “CBD can be part of a harm reduction strategy to reduce problematic drinking. By reducing cravings and amplifying the body’s defenses, CBD may help individuals minimize the harms associated with alcoholism. For instance, CBD is shown to reduce liver toxicity associated with alcohol in mice.”

A 2014 study published in the journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine supports Dr. Bone’s assertion that CBD can reduce liver toxicity associated with alcohol in mice. The study, conducted by researchers from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, found that CBD protected the livers of mice from binge alcohol-induced steatosis (fatty liver disease). More research is needed to illuminate if there are any similar protective effects in people.

Alcohol withdrawal can be very serious, even life-threatening if handled improperly, so it’s always critical for those with an alcohol use disorder to seek medical supervision before ceasing alcohol use, even when taking CBD to help with symptoms.

Additionally, CBD cocktails may be useful for those who want to enjoy the relaxing experience of a cocktail without alcohol. Simply add CBD oil to your favorite cocktail recipe, withhold the liquor, and enjoy the CBD-infused drink in a social setting.
